End One Way
“It needs more cowbell,” says John.
Yoko, holding the cowbell, smirks and nods.
“I can’t keep proper time with it gonging in my ear,” says Ringo.
“Forget the cowbell. We need some horns to offset the piano,” says Paul. Billy had mentioned this to Paul last night over drinks.
G. Martin walks out of the mixing box and says, “This one isn’t coming together. We need a new last track.”
George plays a little something and says, “how about this?”
A collective sigh warms the room.
“We already decided it would end one way,” Paul huffs.
George stands; walks out.

Note: I saw the sign in the pic and the story sparked from there. I hope you enjoyed my little piece of Beatles fan fic.

I bet they had recording days like that!

You really don’t like Paul, do you? I’m sure they all had their days. (K)

In this scenario, I don’t. In others, I do. Generally, I don’t like how John and Paul cut George out of songwriting credits and royalties; at the same time he was their student and learned how to write great songs under their tutelage.

Yes, neither George nor Ringo gets enough credit. Even now, when it’s obvious they were integral to the music.

When I think of other ways it could have turned out, I realize it had to happen just the way it did, just like when I look back on my own life. I found the clip where George walked out and will share it if you are interested. If you aren’t, I understand.

Sure, I’d like to see it. And you are right. So many threads overlapping–how can they be pulled apart after the fact?

Everyone has a favourite Beatle, Lisa; I think you’ve just outed yours. Or at least your least-favourite! I suppose hard to let go of control and accept change when it’s at your cost.

Too many creative geniuses spoilt the broth. Nice take on the prompt, Lisa.

Someone, good way of putting it. I think it needed to happen so they could each go on to manifest their individual creative spirits.

Great take on your photo Lisa – I wonder if that’s what it was like in the recording studio? Love it 🙌

Ange, I’m SURE it is. In the mini-series Peter Jackson did on them a few years back, they captured some of it on film. Not sure if it was always that way for them, when it was them against the world, but over time…

Love it! The photo is a great touch, too, not only for the signage but for the visual blend of shapes and lines in the architecture.

Thank you so much, Steve. Not sure if you saw that I took this while walking to the VanAndel Arena for the Billy Strings concert.

You’re welcome. Lisa. No, I did not see that… how cool. If there was a post about that, I missed it. I’ve been spotty at best in keeping up with blogs I follow.

Hi Lisa, I can only imagine how big personalities try to take over and clash; Beatles or other groups. I wonder is it music or ego that drives them?

James, good question. For them, probably some of each. But generally speaking, very difficult to excise ego from human nature, yes?

Dear Lisa,
I think the pressue of fame and constant togetherness took their toll on the four lads. Adding Yoko Oh NO to the mix didn’t help. Those latter days always make me sad.
You captured the tone of those final sessions.
I will be a Beatles fan forever. They’ve each taken their turns as being my favorite du jour. ;) It makes me happy that George and Ringo did come into their own after being minimized by Lennon McCartney.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Rochelle, I appreciate your comment very much. Totally agree on the fame and constant togetherness. At first it was them against the world and then… Love the Yoko Oh NO :) I’m also a Beatles fan forever and a George fan forever and beyond. Just watched a doc on Friar Park. What an amazing place!
Shalom,
Lisa

Brilliant… in so many ways, Li. I came from Liverpool (from part of the time) – and that makes a huge difference. George – the best.

Omigosh, Chris, you came from Liverpool, that is good to know. Have you seen that statue of them there? You have the insider info on them. George Forever! <3

I LIKE Yoko, and John was always my fav, with George a very close second. The world changed when John died.
I’m not that fond of Paul. Always found Ringo OK:
Great trip down memory lane, thank you LIsa.

Gabi, Yoko was put in a very difficult position, so nobody would fit in seamlessly as she competed for John’s affection/time/attention. What I don’t understand is why John’s dead and his killer is still alive. Can’t wrap my head around it. I remember when George got attacked and Olivia saved his life, but I don’t think his health was ever very good after that. Paul is, and Paul is still who he was, and you’ve got to give him some credit for that, even though who he was was an ass sometimes. I still love his songs and his talent. Ringo middle of the road and there is something to be said for that. That clip where George walked out and Ringo going medieval on the drums was truly heartrending.
Glad you enjoyed the stroll, thanks :)
