If the current administration follows its current trajectory- I fear disasters like this will be on the uptick. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

V, you are right to be concerned. One of our state elected reps introduced legislation that would make it impossible to shut the oil line down. If that isn’t terrifying I don’t know what is. He’s proud of it!

Madness – environmentally and otherwise.

Yes it is, Paul. Look at my comment to Violet to see what one of our idiotic/evil/paid lackey state representatives has introduced.

They are trying to revive something similar here. It is terrifying. (K)

Sometimes I feel like dissociating from this reality, as it seems to have been designed by something evil. What will it take to break the suffocating grip of what feels like a giant poison ivy vine wrapping around us?

I think there’s going to be an explosion of some sort. I just hope good rises from the rubble.

You are welcome on the sharing. Keep saying prayers that will put this heinous project on terminal hold. And please, contact your own elected reps to get Enbridge to back off on it.

Since I’m outside the US, I’m not sure my representations would carry any weight, but I send my heartfelt support to advocates and activists seeking environmental justice everywhere. 🙏🏼

Steve, I think you know Enbridge is a Canadian company? Maybe you could write to your reps and tell them you’re against Enbridge piping the oil here? I do know on YouTube I’m getting extremely tired of seeing Enbridge commercials trying to spin themselves into a company that just loves to take care of the environment!

Ah, yes, I forgot they are Canadian. I will look into this more.

Thanks for posting this, Lisa. And this video only addresses one of the problems. There is also grave concern over the routing through Wisconsin. See this from the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwe). https://www.badriver-nsn.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Handout-about-Line-5-3-pages.pdf. 28 Indigenous nations have signed an amicus brief in the Bad River suit.
Enbridge now proposes a detour around the reservation. From Earth Justice: “In total, the reroute would cross at least 186 waterways and 101 acres of high-quality wetlands”

OH NO. How about Enbridge keep its oil and Michigan and Wisconsin devote taxpayer resources to developing alternative, sustainable energy? Steve, thank you for sharing this. My focus was so much on the Great Lakes I never considered who/what/where would be harmed by a detour of the pipeline. After watching the excellent netflix series, “Our Oceans” it is absolutely clear that, like a body’s circulatory system, all bodies of water are interconnected, and what harms one will harm all.

To be clear, the proposed detour is just to take the pipeline off the reservation. It isn’t a change to the cross-lake route.
