Showdown
To discern truth from desiccated dead-eyed dickhead
one must flip the script on every word it utters. When
it denies, know. When it proclaims truth, know
that it lies. It’s everything ugly about corporatocracy,
control through idiocracy, dumbing down the 95%,
mudding water of reality to murky unpotability. Play
with lives, color with ugly crayons dartboards of day.
Cart them away, disappeared, forgotten in denies.
What monster draws cartoons in pedophile birthday
books? What monster gets away with teen pageants
with only two slimy, lecherous eye-gropers? Why
are flags lowered for a monster’s mouthpiece? When
will we rise, perhaps for the first time, as one?
Sanaa is today’s host for dVerse’ Open Link Night.

We may ask ourselves that…. though the murder was still a terrible and dangerous act.

Whilst you shed light on some ugly truths here, Lisa, I still enjoyed your scathing wordplay. It’s unbelievable what people in power (usually men) have got away with, isn’t it?

V, YES. I usually leash myself (we are taught not to make waves) but once in awhile I run with the wolves (nod to Dr. CPE.)

Amen, sister. You said it best. Also, your poem reminded me of this clip.

Charlie, THANK YOU for bring that clip back to me. 1976 movie, and so much has not only not changed but has gotten worse :( He’s right, you’ve got to feel it before you can take action. When I heard about the assassination and read quotes by the victim from 2 years ago, I had mixed feelings, to put it mildly.

You welcome.
Things have gotten worse, and we all must feel it, or feel the anger as it happens to take those actions. That movie has a lot of relevance in certain aspects.
To the last thing you said, I know what you mean.

I totally agree, Li. Sharply done. Violence is terrible, but people who spread hate and lies should not be honored.

AMEN. When elected reps are attacked/murdered across the US and crickets from POTUS, but this spewer of hate and lies gets flags half-mast? He’s using human tragedy to whip us all into a frenzy.

Yes, it’s horrible and disgusting.

Evidently hate and lies are what qualifies you for sainthood these days.. Well, Vance and our Supreme Court Justices do have their own version of Catholicism, infused with cruelty. (K)

I agree 100%. Because I have a bunch of very conservative students, I’m supposed to be graceful with my online opinions. I hate it. Your poem is amazing! Thank you very much.

Aaron, I guess I didn’t know you were a teacher. Makes it very tricky to express an honest opinion, I would imagine.

Normally, they don’t care. There are loads of conservative folks here and they are very sensitive right now. My freshmen (ENGL1010) know I’m on the left. I’ll wait a while before I tell folks how I feel about Kirk. No matter, your poem is great!

I’m in St. George, UVU is 300+ miles north. However, St. George is way more MAGA. Orem is more Mitt Romney type conservative.

I’m happy to see more ‘political’ and humanist poems. It’s my wheelhouse, I guess. And while an avalanche of autumnal poems will be forthcoming, followed my inevitable wintery words and some feel they may have a place, I’m not so much a fan. I want raw emotions, anger and, even possibly, answers!Great write Lisa. 👏

Shaun, I understand. Poetry can be used in a lot of ways. Words are power and poetry is concentrated power. Thank you.
