Done Waiting
Gert rings two shorts, pause, one long, for Deb to bring tea.
“Let me tell you how it’s going to be,” Reg says as he props his mud-caked boots on the tea table.
“I’ll get you the money, I just need a little more time,” says Gert.
“Done waiting. Today, or Toto comes with me.”
Toto growls.
Deb enters, sets the tray next to Reg’ boots, and leaves.
Gert pours with trembling hands, then stands.
“I have mother’s wedding ring.”
Reg grunts approval as he sips.
Gert returns, stepping over his lifeless body.
“You wanted today.” She rings one long.

Moral of the story: don’t mess with Gert!

I imagine him as an older brother who has been bullying her all of their lives, and when he started threatening her beloved Toto, enough was enough. Thanks for reading, Steve.

You’re welcome, Lisa, I enjoyed it, thanks for sharing. Yes, it seems there is almost always a red line for people.

I like that it’s not clear who did the deed. (K)

:) Toto may have reached his limit. And either of the women. It was Reg’ time.

Oh! That was clever. I wonder what he put in the tea. Asking for a friend :)

Toto sealed his fate. Never mess with a woman and her dog. Or cat. Or… well just don’t mess with a woman.

Come on Reg; dirty boots on the table is uncouth and disrespectful. I like the coded rings between Gert and Deb.

James, thank you and appreciate the feedback. I wonder if that one long ring means bury him under the rosebushes?

Haha! I just watched a new whodunit from UK called, “Death Valley.” It’s really good — and so funny! Death & Humor make strange bedfellows but it works.

Dear Lisa,
Looks like Toto’s safe from Reg. Remind me not to sip tea with Deb and Gert. ;) Nicely done, ladies.

Rochelle
