Granddaughter has started going to weekly storytime again at the library after summer break. I met up with her and her parents this week. They have a big room with a big screen at the front, with chairs in a semi-circle for the adults, and a crate full of alphabet-themed rugs for the kids to choose from to sit on — when they sit, which for most of them isn’t very often, inside of the chair hemisphere. The kids range in age from infants to about 6 years old. The children’s librarian who engages with them in reading books and leading exercises has been the same one every time I’ve gone.
Each child has their own way of engaging. The babies watch from their blankets. Some sit on their parents’ laps. Some are oblivious to her and play with toys with their friends. My granddaughter stands a few feet from the librarian and directly interacts with her.
The story reading and activities take up about a half-hour, then the kids (and some adults) take part in a simple craft project that has been set up to the side. After that, all of the cool toys are pulled out and everyone does their own thing. My granddaughter has a circle of friends she has made there, and all of their parents have become friends with each other and do activities together outside of the library. The parents form a group on the floor and the kids play with toys around them. I pull up a chair and become part of the gathering. Such a good feeling to see the kids and the adults all getting along in a wholesome way.
I saw the display case that held old valentines in February now holding old cameras. I recognized the Duaflex II as like one we had when I was a kid. Do you recognize any of these cameras/accessories from your past?
Sorry, should have published this morning at 9am but I forgot to hit the publish button once scheduled.

What an excellent exhibit. My father used to film us every Christmas–I think one of my brothers converted them to digital at some point. I’m not sure he had that exact film cameral but it has the feel.
I’m so glad your granddaughter and her parents have found such a great group. I’m sometimes in our local library at storytime and I can tell many of the children are “regulars”. I really like the librarian who conducts it as well. She always starts by singing. (K)

Glad you like the exhibit and that it brings those memories back to you. I’m glad they have also. And they’ve all seen me enough to know who I am. Happy you’ve been there to experience the fun.

This is such a great post! I love the interactions you shared. Discord is a learned thing it seems. Children are still free from it most of the time.
We also had a duaflex camera with flash and I think 620 roll film.
Earlier we had a box camera that I think had 127 roll film.
I still have my little 5″ plastic brownie that took 127 roll film.
My era was instamatic with cartridge film.

Dwight, I should have known you would connect with this post. The duaflex is one my parents had but I only remember looking through it and never taking pics with it. I’ve had a polaroid and a few where film had to be taken in to get developed (not very good resolution.) I have a digital camera now that takes good pics but got tired of having to buy batteries for it. Now I just use my phone.

It is interesting how your photo journey has evolved. It is amazing how good the phone photos are these days! I love mine as well as my old nikon!

Hi Lisa, thank you for this fun post. I always enjoy learning about people’s lives. I never had a camera as a girl so I don’t recognise these.

Thank you, Lisa. I haven’t been doing photography for long. I got my first camera, a gift from hubby, two years ago. It is a treasured possession 🌞

You must think we’re really old, with cameras from the 1920s and ’30s! ;) But that flashbulb package looks familiar.
