I Can’t Help Myself — Colbert Still Rules (content warning)

The whole monologue is brilliant, as usual, but what got my chuckles going starts around the 8 minute mark.

Note: all done in fun, folks, even though what is at stake is (literally) deadly serious.

  1. I’m so glad you included a content warning before I had to see and hear J.D. Vance, Ted Cruz, and Karoline Leavitt plus a host of Faux News hosts.

After they give free health care to all undocumented immigrants, is it true that Democrats plan to give them each two votes to make up for having none for so long?

[Oh, wait. I guess that first part was made up. I know the second part is, since I just made it up now.]

    1. It’s beyond the pale… When this is over I will have done just a lot of very difficult paintings. I don’t see any other way through it, for me. I watched this but didn’t think it was funny, just ugly and sad. I did understand how it was supposed to be funny. I think I’m off in some remote valley somewhere…oh wait. 🤣

      1. But I like Colbert and it’s good for me to know something about how people are responding to this. ❤️

Martha, thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. As John sang, “Whatever gets you through the night.”

Maybe, as circumstances get more extreme, so will our methods of coping…

            1. I lived and taught in the People’s Republic of China right after the Cultural Revolution. I met people who’d been thrown in tiger pits for five years JUST because they spoke English and had worked with the US Army during WW II (the anti-Japanese war). People talked about suicide as if it were a disease, “My wife got the suicide.” That’s as extreme as it gets, I think.

I think Goethe’s advise to his secretary is good advice, “Hold your powers together for something good and let everything go that is for you without result and is not suited to you.”

LOL. Steve, I’m glad you appreciate the insanity of it all. Ol JD is probably going to have a conniption for having his nose rubbed in it (it being the mirror, not the couch.)

That’s hilarious. He got Cuomo exactly right. And the subway! perfect! (not to mention Vance of course). Karoline Leavitt will have her own special place in hell. Actually they all will…isn’t Satan building a new ballroom with extra hot fire just for them? (K)

I thought you would appreciate the Cuomo part. He reminds me SO much of one of the administrators at the courthouse years ago.
