Turning it Up
May was June
June was July
What will we get this month?
For sixty plus years
A/C was optional.
Now it keeps us alive.
With cars going electric,
where will energy
sprout as we frogs in the pot
begin to boil?
You have reached a quiet bamboo grove, where you will find an eclectic mix of nature, music, writing, and other creative arts. Tao-Talk is curated by a philosophical daoist who has thrown the net away.
Very true! But here a/c has never been optional, we’ve always had to have it. Well, I suppose some don’t, but it would be miserable if we didn’t have it. :)

Living in TX I understand. I’ve visited there before and was outside at noon. No thanks!

Most here, includingme, still don’t have it, although I must admit that when I did yesterday’s art show, I took a tiny battery-operated fan with me. Good thing. I was sweltering until they let me move my booth out of the only fully-in-the-sun booth to a shady corner spot someone had neglected to show up to fill.

Judy I hope you stay fully hydrated and wear sunscreen or a wide-brimmed hat. Yipes on fully-in-the-sun booth. Glad you were able to move it.

Me, too. I had sunscreen on but no hat or umpbrella as it said it was all covered, but I was on the outer edge where sun came in all day long.

p.s. Unreal that you don’t have AC! Do you get a breeze off of the lake?

Sometimes. No central heating, either.. space heaters and fans, yes.

If I didn’t have access to A/C, I think I’d just melt away. I don’t know if our energy supply is unlimited, but unfortunately it looks like we’re going to be finding that out more and more each year, Lisa. Last summer, when I was outside I felt like one of those frogs. And, it’s not just the heat…but the dryness. No rain for 30+ days is no good for this guy!

Bruce, right now Enbridge from Canada has a 70+ year old pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac pumping oil to us, and because of pressure from environmentalists to take it out, now they want to build a tunnel around it (or a new pipe, I don’t remember.) It is a sh*tty idea at best and a recipe for disaster at worst. The admin is pulling funding for all alternative sources of energy and “drill baby drill” philosophy will up the temp on the water (or drought) situation for us frogs. The Portland Frog is an iconic symbol for a lot of things. 30+ days without rain is horrible! So sorry your area is going through it.

That oil pipe “resolution” sounds like a real challenge to the environment, Lisa. Oh…the 30 days without rain was actually last year. This year, our stretches without rain have been more like two weeks instead of four, so we’re grateful for that!

Our houses here in Ireland have no AC! And the temps are going up and up every summer!

You might want to think about investing in one.

Sounds like you were getting some rain? We were also. I had to turn the heat on. Pulled some houseplants in. Shut the ceiling windows in the atrium. Can’t ignore fall anymore.

Yes we did…it was off and on…usually the weather doesn’t affect me as much but today it did…sleepy all day. No we cannot…I love fall but I wasn’t expecting it!
