FFF 56 — West Michigan Skies and Mad Dogs & Englishmen reboot by Trucks Tedeschi Band and Leon Russell

The last couple of weeks we’ve had clouds in the skies and some pretty heavy rain.  I took a couple of pictures on Sunday night out back of pink and grey clouds.

Today (Thursday,) after a trip to the library, I decided to drive out along the lake (Lake MI) and was amazed at the view so nabbed a few pics there.

The first one is Duck Lake Channel, where Duck Lake connects to Lake MI.  Where I am standing, the big lake is behind me.  This area fills up with families in the summer time as the water is very shallow in the channel.

The next one is a dune along the lake.

The next 3 are at another beach along the lake.

The last 3 are at the beach near Duck Lake Channel.  The skies look so different between the 2 areas.  Both magnificent.  You’ll also notice the aquamarine shade of the water that I usually see farther up north.  You can see a small corner of the channel in the last pic.  The rail is part of the bridge that goes over the channel for the road.

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about Tedeschi Trucks Band I am the Moon 4 disc set. I ordered, “Tedeschi Trucks Band and Leon Russell Present: Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited Live at Lockn’ ” I thought it was the new music it mentioned coming in 2026, but I should have looked closer. This album was recorded in 2015.

Tedeschi Trucks Band and Leon Russell Present: Mad Dogs & Englishmen ...

from inside jacket cover:

In 2015, 45 years after the fact, Tedeschi Trucks Band invited the remaining members of Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen band to recreate their eponymous 1970 live album onstage at the LOCKN’ Festival in Arlington, VA.

Typing this up I also see that:

The LOCKN’ concert was captured by director Jesse Lauter in a feature length documentary, “Learning to Live Together: The Return of Mad Dogs & Englishmen (2021) which goes behind the scenes for the three days of intimate rehearsals leading up to the concert, including rare musical collaborations, and revealing interviews with Derek, Susan and event’s major players.

I need to find that doc.  If anyone knows where I can find it at a reasonable cost, let me know!

Leon Russell passed away in 2016.  Russell takes on a leadership role on the album.  I remember how much he was involved in the original production.  Having him lead here, not long before passing away, makes this an important Live Album.  It is star-studded, with some of my favorites, Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes, Dave Mason, and Doyle Bramhall II.  The original MD&E was high energy and this reboot may be even more so.  Hearing Rita Coolidge sing Bird on the Wire (Cocker sang it on the original recording of MD&E) was worth the price of the album. Rita sang Superstar on the original recording.

I cannot wait to hear new music from TTB in 2026!

Hope you are enjoying your Friday!

Great photos of the lake! The water color is amazing. It reminds me of the clear skies we finally got after I finished my big backyard cleanout. I had a dumpster rental for all the old junk, and seeing the clear space now is as magnificent as those views you captured. Also, great taste in music! That Tedeschi Trucks Band album sounds like a must-find.

  5. Your pics are great, Lisa. The cloud formations in some look stunning.

Tedeschi Trucks Band are on my list of groups I’d like to see. I listened to the Moon set and covered at the time it came out – really like the music! I previously heard of “Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited Live.” The clips you featured sound cool. I should check out the album!

Christian will you give a link to when you covered TTB. I couldn’t find many good YT videos of the Revisited Live. I bet they are all on the DVD that I hope to find. The album is out in full on Spotify :)

          1. You’re welcome, Lisa, glad the links still work. I can’t tell you how many embedded clips in previous posts went dead and I had to fix. It’s a never-ending project! :-)

I know what you mean about dead links. Sometimes I fix them but many times leave them as-is or delete the window.
