Chip Be Nimble
I was reminded today
that chipmunks are squirrels
instead of chatty cartoons,
runners and burrowers.
I watched one climb
the slider screen, then pull
itself onto windchimes
to trapeze. Only a miniature
squirrel could be so nimble.
Note: You may be wondering what fruit has to do with chipmunks. Nothing, other than they may like to eat it. None of the poems are ekphrastic, except by chance. I wrote the poems separately and created the postcard separately. But… just because I can, here is one of my favorite chipmunk pics:

Chipmumks are very resourceful. I had one the climbed up inside the slinky on my bird feeder crook and came through the wire to the feeder! A great poem, Lisa.

Yes, they are! I remember reading about them for a prompt poem and being impressed by what I learned. One time, when I hadn’t been living here that long, I opened the door and a chipmunk raced in. It ran straight down the hall, hit the end, turned around, and ran right back out. Still amazed and impressed it had the wherewithall to do it. Saved me a world of trouble trying to shoo it out!

Ha ha… that is a good one. We had a baby squirrel come down the chimney and woke us in the middle of the night. We had to open the front door and between the two of us shoo him out! Hope no one was looking!! :>)

Oh my gosh! Squirrels take it to the next level. Funny visual but probably not so funny at the time.

I love chipmunks. I’ve seen them in both Botanical Gardens in the city but nowhere else, even though squirrels are everywhere. They were permanent residents in all my childhood homes. (K)
