Avenue of Trees
Cloud sky stew merries
the world in palest hue.
Hot dead air replaced,
cool breeze wafts through.
It’s soft, the wind, it brushes my skin
as doors open, a/c offed,
perfect summer day.
No appointments, deadlines;
I take a ride on my bike
down the avenue of rustling trees.
Another one for a friend.

There you go again Lisa. You had me thinking with your use of “merries” !

Those rustling trees always appeal to me, Lisa. (As do butterflies…I see you butterfly!)

Bruce thanks much for reading, looking, and commenting. It was one heck of a summer, and I miss it already, no matter how hot it was.

Of all the bloggers…you make me think of trees more than anyone else… yes I go here all of the time…and I apologize but….
“I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees for the trees have no tongues.” and my favorite:
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

<3 <3 <3 Can't tell you the # of times I read that book to my kids. Younger son is teaching granddaughter to honor trees. She pulled a piece of bark off of a tree one day and I said you know that hurts the tree. Like if someone picked off a piece of your skin. She paused. I could tell she was listening. We need to cultivate that respect and honor for nature in our young people or we don't stand a chance.

Yes…I taught Bailey to respect nature. Both good and the bad things like storms…always respect…thats what it’s all about.

Steve, do you picture yourself as the figure in the image? I know I do :)

Oh, yes, indeed! The photo gives a warm feeling. It also reminds me a little of a photo I took of a favourite trail built on an abandoned rail line with a beautiful canopy of trees. It’s here: http://songoftheday.ca/2024/02/05/brighter-light/

Nice pic, Steve. I can see the parallels.

Thank you. There’s also an old woodcut or some similar media depicting tall trees like the one you used, titled ‘Cathedral.’ I have a print of it but can’t remember the artist.
Trees are so amazing, inspiring and life-giving. There are elms on our street that were planted in 1905 when our home was built. Some have been lost to Dutch Elm disease, sadly.

So happy most of the elms are still standing.

Yes, me too. Our city government has done a pretty decent job of surveillance and removal of diseased trees to reduce the spread of the beetles that carry and spread the disease.
