You have reached a quiet bamboo grove, where you will find an eclectic mix of nature, music, writing, and other creative arts. Tao-Talk is curated by a philosophical daoist who has thrown the net away.
Pale lines and dry, rough edges have shifted landscapes from colorful contours of a month ago. Unable to sit with daylight gaze fixed upon them, and shut out from night’s shadow view, the transition has been so incremental as to seem stealthy. Once presence of mind stills scrolling eyes, a series of sequential moments brings epiphany that fall is fully engaged. Not only, but it has almost passed.
Weather reports say it will snow day after day later this week; yet the time of towering snowbanks at Thanksgiving are over. Even a dusting is welcomed to join us for dinner.
november rain falls cold portends for tomorrow with warm gathering
Frank Tassone is the host of dVerse’ Haibun Monday. Frank says: Today, let’s bear witness to the power of transformation. Write your haibun about, or alluding to, transformation, however you perceive it!
Thanks for the well wishes on the gathering. Most stuff is bought for the gathering on Friday. Older son has (secret) plans for Thursday. ::fingers crossed:: that he’s sharing the day with someone nice.
This is an excellent haibun and observation, Lisa. Seriously, if it rains or snows, I’ll be happy. Our lack of moisture this summer/fall has been abysmal.
Nice to see November Rain featured here, Lisa. Guns N’ Roses just announced some tour dates in North America for 2026 earlier this week. No snow for us yet. Take care of it for us unti it is our turn…IF we get a turn. ❄️
So awesome about Guns N’ Roses touring again. I know Slash has steadily been making music but didn’t know what the other band members had been doing. It’s cold enough out there today to snow but only rain so far. Maybe it will skip you :)
Well, I actually like snow between now and New Year’s. After New Year’s, I can very much do without it. So, if you get any “extra” over the next few weeks go ahead and forward it!😄
I had such an experience of surprise at a seasonal change that seemed to have happened overnight but must have been ongoing for a few weeks. Laughed at my own astonishment!
What a gentle gut-punch of a haibun, Li, you’ve captured that sneaky slide from autumn’s blaze to winter’s hush so perfectly it had me peering out my own rain-lashed window here in the grey north. Those pale lines creeping in, the epiphany hitting like a half-remembered dream, it’s all too real, isn’t it? And that haiku, oh, the way the cold rain whispers of tomorrow’s chill while cradling the promise of warm plates and laughter round the table, it lingers like the last sip of mulled wine. Makes me miss those towering snowbanks of my childhood Thanksgivings, proper proper. Thanks for the nudge to notice the shift, love, and for hosting such a cracking prompt. I’ll be scribbling my own transformation tonight, rain tapping along. Cheers from across the pond.
A stunning descriptive haibun, Lisa, with a distinctive transition. We’ve already had snow here, so I sympathise, but also envy the warm gathering,

Kim, thanks so much. We have had a few snows but nothing stuck. I wonder if this will?

These words invite me into a November not experienced in our part of the world, and I was well able to engage. Thank you, Lisa.

Thanks, Ron. Don’t you live in the mountains? That’s a lot of snow that is sticking.

What a lovely comment, Dr. Banerjee, poetry in and of itself. Stay warm in the grey north across the pond.

For me this was a beautiful contemplation on paying attention, attending to the past experiences and noting the present and being in the moment.
