FFF 60 — The Analogues & The Analogues Sideshow

The Analogues

The Analogues first came on my radar when I was looking for George Harrison’s song, Ding Dong Ding Dong and I came across their cover of it. HERE is the write-up where I first mention them. It says it’s a repost, but not sure from when other than the other times I posted on the song at various New Years’ Eves.

Looking at wiki for The Analogues, this is wiki’s last entry intro for them:

The Analogues were a Dutch tribute act dedicated to recreating the music of the Beatles. Founded in 2014, their goal was to perform the Beatles’ music from the band’s later studio years live, using analogue and period-accurate instrumentation. The Beatles never performed many of these songs or entire albums live. The Analogues gained recognition for their meticulous attention to detail and authenticity. While they did not attempt to resemble the Beatles visually, their performances were celebrated for accurately reproducing the Beatles’ distinctive sound and musical complexity. The project ended with a final concert on 28 December 2024 at Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam.

You know how it is when you happen across something or someone who strikes your fancy? The Analogues struck my fancy and I’ve gone back and listened to them on YouTube, watched the linked doc in the previous post, and otherwise stayed in their little box in my mind to pull out from time to time. A couple of weeks ago, they called to me and I went out for a few listens. I realized this group has given me so much enjoyment but I had yet to buy any of their excellent music from them – so went to their website. Looking at the reasonable price of their DVD’s, where live performance is what they are all about, I decided to buy 3 DVDs. Even though they were coming from The Netherlands, they arrived with lightning speed and came with the biggest surprise of all. A total of 7 items, including the ordered DVDs, a CD of one of the concerts, 2 documentary DVDs, AND … the happy news that The Analogues are continuing to make new music under the moniker, The Analogues Sideshow, with a CD of their new music. Guys, if you are reading this post, THANK YOU for going so much above and beyond with my order! Your music, whether recreating The Beatles or creating Beatles-inspired tunes, puts me in a happy place. A joy rises within and tears arrive, unbidden.  Keep making music, PLEASE!

The complete package.  The foldout shows a timeline of events going on during the time the music was being made.

Haven’t watched this one yet.  Includes 16 songs on the album 2 extra songs, “Let It Be” and “Eleanor Rigby,” as well as a behind the scenes section.

Haven’t watched this yet either.  Abbey Road Relived, recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

The CD, to take in the car.
(Yes, my car still has a CD player.)

The Analogues in Liverpool is a documentary on how the concert came about and what it meant to the people of Liverpool.  Did you know that there is an annual International Beatleweek?  The doc is wonderful.  Interviews are done with key people from when The Beatles were getting started, discussion of The Cavern Club and how  it has changed since then, and good parts on the festivities.  It talks about how The White Album came to be, and it goes into that (in)famous song, “Revolution #9,” and how The Analogues commissioned a videographer to  meticulously listen and break it down into imagery.

The complete White Album by The Analogues.  All 30 songs.  In addition, 15 animations played on a giant screen behind them, with the magnificent Revolution 9 as the last one.

Haven’t seen this one yet, but it is a documentary on the concert as well as the full-length concert.

I’ve been listening to this CD on repeat.  Have burned a copy to my computer and have the CD in the car.  It has taken my ear a little time to understand what it is listening to is both The Beatles sound yet totally new music.   Hopefully the first song will automatically play the whole album.  (No, it doesn’t.  If you go to YouTube, you can find a complete playlist.)

Happy Friday!

  1. What a wonderful post! I first found them by checking out them do the White Album live…as it’s my favorite. Yes…they actually did…Revolution #9 live…that to me is a miracle and they pulled it off!
I like the new music and Patience could have been a George song. I’ve listened to 5 so far and it does have a Beatles ring to them but not a copy. I’ll take a listen between tonight and tomorrow to more of them.

Max, I had hoped you would like what you are hearing. With Revolution #9, they didn’t actually perform that one. They put an old tape machine on the stage to play it while the animation took over. Very powerful!

I wrote up the Analogues doing the White Album…I must have deleted the draft…I saw the entire show on youtube…but…you are right…they don’t do it live live…I just found someone doing it live…maybe I was thinking of these guys on this one song? Doesn’t matter…I love the Analogues…and their performance of the White Album is great.

Christian, I doubt we’ll ever see them in the U.S., unless they want to ship/fly 2 semi-truck trailers full of their equipment. Would be willing to fly over the ocean to see them if they do more concerts.

Yes, and I hope they see it. I hope you get a chance to spend some time with their Beatles covers and also more tracks from their Sideshow album.

Bruce, heck yes, I’m geeked, and there will be music and video enough to keeping me agog through the holidays. What gets me is so matter-of-fact they are about how excellent they are. They’ve done the work and share it humbly.
