Before we get into The Story of Thundermother, I want to thank Christian Pflaumer at Christian’s Music Musings for being a faithful and excellent guest writer for Women Music March. Christian chooses hard rockers from all over the world, including Tal Wilkenfeld, Cindy Blackman Santana, and Gianna Nannini. He also makes sure you have a chance to listen to the band across albums.

Thundermother are an all-female hard rock band from Sweden, led by Filippa Nässi (guitar), who founded the group in Växjö in 2009. Their current members also include Linnéa Vikström Egg (vocals), Majsan Lindberg (bass) and Joan Massing (drums).
Thundermother have toured with Scorpions across Europe and North America, and played with Kiss, Danish rock band D-A-D and Swedish rock group Backyard Babies.
Apart from music, Nässil also makes jewelry for rockers. She launched her design venture Raspberry Rocks in 2016.
Early Life:
Nässil was born on August 9, 1986 in Tryde in Skåne county, Sweden. She started playing guitar as a 12-year-old. Her key influences were AC/DC and Kiss.
Musical Beginnings:
Nässil formed Thundermother in a basement in Växjö. The group initially also featured Nathalie Lejon (vocals), Moa Munoz (bass) and Tomas Salonen (drums) – the only line-up that included a male. Their first gig occurred in April 2010 at a youth center in Växjö.
In their early years, Thundermother went through many changes. By 2012, their line-up became more stable. Their 2014 debut album Rock ‘n’ Roll Disaster was followed by 2015’s Road Fever. After moving to Stockholm, Nässil started another group, the short-lived Hifly who released two singles and an album in 2015.
Two years later, four members of Thundermother left, only leaving Nässil. She continued the group with a new line-up who put out four albums between 2018 and 2023. Then, remarkably, history repeated itself, and once again Nässil found herself rebuilding the group, which resulted in the current line-up.
Loudwire reported the 2023 shake-up was triggered by Nässil’s decision to sever ties with lead vocalist Guernica Mancini. This prompted bassist Mona Lindgren and drummer Emlee Johnson to leave Thundermother as well. The three went on to form a new group.
