dVerse Poetics — Lunch on Peacock Island

Lunch on Peacock Island

Upon velvet rose morning,
before slab of green marble,
a rice paper pale peahen
with lustrous copper hair
shade-bathed, a-blanketed
under neatly trimmed willow;
impatient small wood nymph
a-wait for her fiery skipper.

His wake preceded him.
She stepped aboard before
the dinghy touched sand
and off she, her picnic basket,
and wandering skipper cut
through duckweed to Peacock
Island's fragrant speckled wood
for lunch and a nap.

Merril is today’s host for dVerse’ Poetics Tuesday. Merril says:
Choose at least three of the names from the list below and include them in your poem. You may choose to use more than three for your poem. Please use the entire name, that is use “Appalachian azure”, not just Appalachian or azure.
There is no specific form for this prompt. And to be clear, the poem does not have to be about butterflies at all (though it can be). Simply use the words for inspiration. I think they can take you in a variety of directions.

Appalachian azure
Autumn leaf
Clipper
Clouded yellow
Crimson Patch
Duke of Burgundy
Fatal Metalmark
Fiery skipper
Gatekeeper
Golden birdwing
Golden Hairstreak
Green marble
Large Tortoiseshell
Lustrous copper
Miami Blue
Monarch
Mourning Cloak
Orange Sulphur
Painted Lady
Peacock
Pine Satyr
Rice paper
Rusty-tipped page
Silver Emperor
Silver-banded Hairstreak
Small Wood nymph
Sonoran Blue
Speckled wood
Spring white
Velvet rose
Wandering skipper

Ah! Oops, my mind was distracted by the MI primary election. Abdul El-Sayed won as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate! An historic moment in US history.

I’ve had lunch on Peacock Island, the one just outside Berlin. I loved having lunch with you in your poem, Lisa, especially the ‘rice paper pale peahen’ – yes, that’s how I remember them – and a nap would be nice now, after aqua aerobics.
