POPO 2026 Day 28

Primary election day, where hope stirs,
a giant wakes, with desire
to scramble up from wallow of stress
to cast veils of lies aside from
professional politicians beholden
to their overlord paymasters.

Primary election day, where we hold
our breaths, trusting our state kin
to understand what’s at stake,
to get to the polls, to cast their votes.
Hand to hand, heart to heart,
to mend open wounds, to loose
long-stilled wings.

UPDATE: this poem was written right before primary day but is being posted just a few days before midterm elections. Please, dear reader, vote as if your “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” were at stake.
