Poetry — Late summer nature

image link Queen Anne’s lace fringes the edges of long green lawn ruffling with the breeze. Bees and butterflies, yellow, black, red, orange, blue, ride the gentle swells. Crickets and cicada chirp and thrum in concert with chickadee and finch. Apple, pear, and locust branches bob, leaves rustle in flickering sunlight.

Dear Monarch

Dear Monarch,I discovered you yesterday afternoon,motionless, along the roadside.Using a stick, I hoped you wouldcling to it, so you could be transportedto safer ground.  It felt as if you did,although weakly,and so I gingerly lifted youonto the plastic bag holding the new phone book.Knowing where there were milkweed out back,I stepped through the tall grassand…
