Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through. ~Jonathan Swift, A Critical Essay upon the Faculties of the Mind, 1707

Crime is naught but misdirected energy. So long as every institution of today, economic, political, social, and moral, conspires to misdirect human energy into wrong channels; so long as most people are out of place doing the things they hate to do, living a life they loathe to live, crime will be inevitable, and all the laws on the statutes can only increase, but never do away with, crime.

  1. The more I watch the news, the more amazed I am about how blatant and prosperous white collar crime can be. So many of Trump’s friends and allies could have gone their whole lives breaking the law to make money, except now Trump’s own behavior has attracted the spotlight to their activities.
