Linda G. Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday for today comes from a book I just read. This quote struck me between the eyes. Fear and anxiety go hand in hand and I’m always looking for a shift in perspective that will help me manage them. This quote for that is a winner.

“I’ve never really felt afraid before, Cocky. Why is it so hard to be afraid? Why does it make my heart pound like I’m about to be in the last fight of my life?”
“Because that’s what fear is, Roo. The last fight for your life. Until the next one, but only if you fight hard enough to get through this one. Fear is useful, if you use it to give you speed, or strength, or instincts – it’s only a bad thing if you let it freeze you, or stop you, or cause you to run from your own shadow. Fear isn’t real, you know. It’s nothing more than the acknowledgement that life is tough, that you have to fight for your life every day, even in small ways; you have a right to fight for it. That’s all.”

Thought I recognised it! Cocky is a smart guy for a polly (politician-type, that is).

Reblogged this on Indie Reviews and commented:
this is probably one of the best quotes I’ve seen lately – and it’s new and fresh and said by a cocky fella!
