Colder than a….

Yesterday quite a bit of snow fell.  Enough where I trudged out to the garage to pull the snowblower out.  Imagine my disappointment when it refused to start.  I looked for the snow shovel and found it moved out with the ex.  So…. I took the flat shovel and got out to where the plows threw gobs and started plugging away at it.  My next door neighbor walked by with her snow shoes and suggested I call one of the 3 neighbors across from her and have them plow out the driveway.  I’ve never spoken with them before but now I should call them and ask for a plow-out?  Nah.  I kept at it and cleared quite a bit by the time all was said and done.

I got a lunch invite from former co-workers and had a book, some dvds, and 2 music CDs to pick up from the library, as well as needing to get a snow shovel, so I said a little prayer, backed the car up as far as I could, and took a run for it.  Piece of cake!  There were no scary bits at all.  Had my lunch with much good conversation, filled up the gas tank, went to the library, then to the store for the shovel.

The dentist office called on Tuesday to see if I could move my appt up until today at 3.  I had some time between the store and the dentist so took a ride out by the lakes.  The following video gives you an idea of how cold it is.

I’m giving a shout-out to the peeps roasting in Australia and in other places of the world.  If there was a way to box some of the cold up and send it to you, I would.

Update:  I forgot to add this picture.  I took it this morning when I got up.  It is the outdoor thermometer.  Seeing the temp, it struck me — I’m slow on the uptake often — that it has been saying this same temperature for a very long time.  Damned thing is broke.

Shoveling snow I hate it! But what can you do- when it has to be done. It sounds like it was worth it for you to dig out! I can’t wait for spring. I used to love winter. Last year I noticed I didn’t like it anymore. I don’t really care for summer either. There is always spring and fall I guess.

fantastic! I forgot to post a picture of my outdoor thermometer I took today. I looked at it to see what it said and realize it has been stuck at that temperature for a VERY LONG TIME. If only we could invent outdoor thermometers where we set the outside temp….

If it’s not broken, are you attempting to set it to what you want it to be?

66F – or are my eyes fried? I’d be happy with 66F (about 18C) …

We had more than 49C yesterday … I wouldn’t look after that! 120F. 120. I set up wet hessian bags for the birds and lizards, a wet patch of sand for the bees, left the rainwater tank on a slow drip in a flat container – and watched them all come in. We had a lot of visitors yesterday. Dog and I stayed inside unless absolutely necessary.

<3 what is a hessian bag? it's never been so hot here to worry about the bees and birds, but i do have a bird bath that i frequently see butterflies come to

hessian is usually what potatoes come in (the bulk sacks), a heavy weave that breaths, and holds the water well, stays moist.

ah I got it. is it like burlap? sounds like it but maybe more absorbant?

exactly the same! or at least made from the same fibres, to the same weave, and used for the same purposes – I learned something today. Burlap and hessian – I’d always thought they were different.

There is a story in every lining, every weave, every little breath of thought … I catch as many as I can, but some of th buggers are a bit slippery …

No, I can weave a story, but shaping to poetry drives me to the deep end of grief … I like reading it, using it as inspiration, but not creating it …

It’s getting down to 17 here tomorrow morning. I wish we had more snow…I get to work from home when it snows because of where I live….so I don’t mind. One inch of snow in Nashville can shut it down.

oh my goodness 1 inch shuts it down? you probably don’t need snow shovels or snow blowers do you?

Oh no… in the 70s we would get around 3-7 inch snowfalls…up til around 85…then we were lucky to get one 1 inch snow a year…in the past 10 years or so it’s picked up again…We get ice storms though…it’s terrible because there is no driving on that and it cuts electricity.

interesting about your snow. so far this year very little snow — knock on wood — but last year was a nightmare we got so much. ice storms we don’t get a lot, but sometimes we do. yes no driving on that and yes it takes power lines down here also

Nashville is not equipped to handle snow at all…we just don’t get much. But yea…one inch will close the schools.
When I was a kid I would be out 2 weeks at times. I like snow…as long as I’m at home

I got all my running done today and was blessed to get back up to the house with the car. I got the cadillac of snow shovels that will be put to the test tomorrow while I figure out how to get my snowblower running again.

I can’t imagine that much snow…I would like it for a while.
I had a job offer in Minneapolis one time and turned it down. Anywhere I would need a heating blanket for my engine in my car…I don’t need to be there.

It’s not that bad here in Michigan. I do remember two different trips to Canada where they actually have to plug their cars in to keep the batteries charged so they will start. This is everywhere, like if you went to the grocery store you’d have to plug your car in. That is COLD.

The worst thing about here are two things… The humidity and allergies…one of the worse places ever for allergies.
