SoCS — Celery and Celestial Celebrities

stream-of-consciousness-saturday-2018-19

Linda G. Hill is the host of Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Linda says:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “cele-.” Find a word that starts with or contains “cele” and use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

It took a minute to think about how to begin this post but first I had to try to figure out what words have “cele” in them. My first thought was celery. I like celery for its crunch and how it makes salads and soups taste, but that’s about as far as I was able to take celery.

Next I looked on a page to find words that contain “cele” and found two that jumped out: celestial and celebrity. Taking these two and running with them, I’m going to use stream of consciousness and list any celestial celebrities that come to mind, in no particular order or gender and movies that come to mind.

Jeff Bridges. I saw him in “Bad Times at the Hotel El Royale” a couple of nights ago and he was excellent in it just as he is in all movies. Other favorite movies of his: “Starman” (with Karen Allen, whom I also think is celestial), “The Fisher King”, “The Big Lebowski”, which continues to have a cult following.

Cate Blanchett. I can’t even begin to think of the films she’s been in. I loved her in “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou”! The Hobbit/Tolkien movies where she is the Elf Queen, as Queen Elizabeth.

Charlize Theron. This woman can play anything! I loved her in “Prometheus” and “Fury Road”

Frances McDormand. Loved her in “Fargo” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebing, Missouri”

Viola Davis. She’s been around forever and now she’s getting some choice roles. I’ve liked her in everything I’ve seen her in, no specific favorite movies.

Christian Bale. You name a movie he’s in and I love it. He is such a versatile actor and has been able to play so many plum roles.

Will Smith. Loved him in the Men in Black movies and the remake of “Omega Man” where he’s the last man left alive. He gives his all in his movies but doesn’t take it too far.

Edward Norton. One of the best actors out there. He can play ANY role and do a stellar job. I loved him in “Birdman” and the movie where he was on trial for murder and I think it was Harrison Ford defended him. He was also excellent as a skinhead older brother “Citizen ?”  Speaking of “Birdman”, Michael Keaton.  Another celestial celbrity I love everything he’s done and he is one who refuses plastic surgery.

Michael Caine – damn. This guy has had a stellar career and is still going strong.

Joaquin Phoenix – last year’s “Sisters Brothers” with John C Reilly he was exceptional. With Phillip Seymour Hoffman in “The Master” – OK Seymour Hoffman was another celestial celebrity, may God rest his soul.

OK that’s enough for now. So many celestial celebrities who weren’t mentioned. Maybe next time.

Glad you liked the list. After some of the choices the academy makes and the ones not chosen, and then I just heard of the weird way they count the votes, sounds almost like the electoral college!

Celestial! Brill! I could have waxed on about something with astrology. Celery (bleck) and celebrate were all I could come up with. Gold star for celestial.
