Fandango’s FOWC is opening, the Word of the Day Challenge is action, Paula’s 3 Things Challenge words are lozenge, mission, raincoat, and Teresa’s Story Starter Challenge prompt is: “Well, I haven’t seen one of those since…”
Zelda, 93 years young, still volunteered at the shelter mission Monday-Friday mornings for homeless teenagers. She was responsible for opening the shelter and helping to serve breakfast for the kids. It helped keep her feeling young, and the teens loved “Grammy.” Her actions and zip were a source of wonder and delight for all who came in contact with her.
Zelda had been trying to stave off a cold over the weekend with herbal teas and Ricola lozenges. Her remedies worked and she was out of her home and walking the three blocks to the shelter on Monday morning. She was passing an alley when she heard a man’s voice call, “Hey Lady! Help!”
Zelda turned to see a pudgy pale man who looked to be in his 60’s, wearing a raincoat – it was warm and sunny that morning. As they made eye contact, the man opened his raincoat, and surprise surprise, he was wearing nothing else but his pale flabby skin.
Zelda’s eyes traveled up and down the man’s body, stopping at a certain place. She cackled, in a way only Zelda could cackle, and said, “Well, I haven’t seen one of those since Truman was president.” She turned back to the sidewalk and kept walking to the shelter.
