Since the afternoon ten-year-old Marie found him crying when Senior Sister Magdalene passed, Mercucio, the Gargoyle, loved the girl. Left on the steps of the convent as a baby, little Marie was a child whose joy made others smile. She’d made Mercucio smile that afternoon.
Mercucio watched over Marie like a guardian angel, and ne’er was a creature so true and so loyal. Father Timothy was found one morning on the stone pathway to the garden, his neck snapped. They said he accidentally fell from the bell tower. Father Timothy would never harm Marie again.
