dVerse — Lai form — Truth or…

Apr 16

dVerse has us writing lai and lai nouveaux form poems for a month.  This is my second lai, which is wordplay for lai=lie.

When asked to write lais
Inhale, then big sighs —
For real?
With truth, my heart lies,
Its pathway is wise
I feel.
With poems words rise —
Truth or lie, its prize
revealed.

I always like a little ambiguity in the sounds of words–I hadn’t even thought of lai/lie, but you used it well. (K)

It’s a trickster of a form, that’s for sure. I got a chuckle out of your wordplay. :)

Hmmm, this one is tricky for me to get a meaning out of — to vague for my somewhat analytic mind. I love the picture of the fish — did you do that????? Very nice.

The first three lines are obvious, a few folks wrote anti-lai rebellion lines. Did I hear someone say that “lai” in French is pronounced like the English word “lay” — if so, the rhyme police may be showing up soon. Smile.

Ah , the second line, I see that you are saying “My heart abides with truth” — at first I thought of “to tell a lie”. Got it — but not sure how this relates to the first 3 lines. So, I move on.

Third stanza, that is what I don’t get. And as I read the comments so far, no one writes anything that points toward your meaning. Wonder if they got it. Are you saying that only truth-speaking poems should be prized, or that …. hmmm, no other guesses.

Yes on the picture, but I only colored it, not drew it. I do one coloring a day, with music, on my blog. I lai/lie, not lai/lay, rhyme police be damned. Tomato/tomato defense. The third line, which is:
      With poems words rise —
      Truth or lie, its prize
      revealed.
It doesn’t matter if a poem is true (literally) or a lie (a formed reality) as long as the meaning/intent rises with the words and can be understood. The 3rd stanza stands alone, but it is also connected to the first two because it’s arguing the merits of truth and lais/lies.

Ahhhh, truth or lie, fact or fiction, intent is what matters. Got it. Thanx

Well done! By the way, I Googled pronunciation and a video voice told me it’s lie (lai). That solves that, at least. I took another stab at it, but ended with couplets not rhyming and too many syllables here and there. Allowing myself that largess, however, I actually had a bit of fun.
