How do you like the picture of the rooster we used to have? We ended up having to give him to a friend’s flock as he kept attacking when we gathered the eggs.

He was a real beauty. We got an assortment of chicks from a fancy chicken breeder and had little idea what they would turn out like. We were told they were only female chicks, but… What surprised me is that we babied all of the chicks and held every one daily so they were completely tame, but when he grew up and saw us taking the eggs, he changed into protector. He was only doing his job, but he nailed me once when my back was turned and that was enough for me!

You know, before I had chickens, I never knew hens would still lay eggs without a rooster.

That has been just about “the most frequently asked question” whenever I’ve discussed my chickens with people! “How can they lay eggs when you don’t have a rooster?” Chickens are amazing!

Yes they are. They are gentle creatures, at least the hens are.
