After being laid off from her job at the medical office of Dr. Fanny, a plastic surgeon, Betty found a part time job at a candy store. Learning how to make luscious pink caramels dipped in white chocolate was so much more enjoyable than taking patients’ blood pressures and medical histories.

Unfortunately, when the Cobra insurance ran out, Betty was forced to buy a very expensive plan; so expensive she couldn’t afford it and soon was in arrears on her premium.

When Betty’s sleeve caught in the taffy machine and her arm was pulled in, her arm soon looked like red taffy. Her boss rushed her to the emergency room of Elite Hospital. Betty was wheeled into surgery on a gurney. The wall phone in the surgery started to ring. One of the surgical technicians answered it. The nurse anaesthetist was standing over Betty with the mask, about to put her under, when the tech said, “She doesn’t have any insurance. She has to go to the Debtor’s.  Reaper’s has been notified.”

Elite Hospital had a contract with Reaper’s Funeral Home to do the transport on the Noins (no insurance) to Debtor’s Hospital. What difference did it really make if an ambulance or a hearse moved the patient anyway? A hearse was always at the hospital and so it didn’t take long to transfer Betty to Debtor’s.

The surgery at Debtor’s was quick and fairly painless.

These days, Betty has regained at least 50% of the use of her arm.

All’s well that ends well.
