I was trying to think of a good song for this coloring and finally settled on the woodsy sound of Jethro Tull’s, “The Witches Promise,” a single, released in January 1970. The single was the first recording to feature keyboardist John Evan, who would be a key member of Jethro Tull throughout the 1970s. He was sharing a flat with frontman Ian Anderson at the time, and agreed to perform as a session musician. This led to an offer to join the band full-time. The track is one of the few recorded by Jethro Tull to feature the Mellotron, a tape replay keyboard that could emulate a string section, and the only single released by the band to feature the instrument. I listened to a lot of Jethro Tull in my day. It seemed to be on turntables, 8-tracks, and cassette players whenever and wherever I was partying. I used to own Aqualung, in both 8-track and CD, but both have been lost along the way. Ian acts a little goofy in this so maybe just listen without watching him until he plays his flute.
Lend me your ear while I call you a fool
You were kissed by a witch, one night in the wood
And later insisted your feelings were true
The witch’s promise was coming
Believing he listened while laughing you flew
Leaves falling red, yellow, brown, all look the same
And the love you have found, lay outside in the rain
Washed clean by the water but nursing his pain
The witch’s promise was coming
And you look and there’s where for your own selfish gain
Keep looking, keep looking for somewhere to be
Well, you’re wasting your time, they’re not stupid like he is
Meanwhile leaves are still falling, you’re too blind to see
You won’t find it easy now, it’s only fair
He was willing to cater to you, but you didn’t care
You’re waiting for more but you’ve already had your share
The witch’s promise is turning
So don’t you wait up for him, he’s going to be late

A very colorful picture you colored! I am not much into Jethro Tull but that’s a good one.

Thanks Hans! It took me awhile. I know you don’t care much for prog rock. Why do they called it that anyway?

I am thinking because in part due to the classical music influences- the emphasis on instrumentation … i was thinking the other day anymore looking at my daily log of records listened to would be able to see right away i am not a big fan of prog rock or heavy metal..

OK thanks for the info on it.

Ian Anderson is so animated…he makes a good frontman. I’ve never heard this one before. This one is straightforward more than some of their others.
I saw four deer this morning in our back woods. ..good picture.

I wish he wouldn’t be making those odd faces though! I was reading where he wasn’t interested in promoting his singles, maybe because he was awkward under the spotlight? Very cool on the deer 🙂

He is an odd one for sure but will draw your attention.
We have so many deer here running about

Do you hunt deer? I know that one deer can feed a family for a long time.

No no… I fish but I just can’t do it. I would if we were starving but I’m not a hunter

Only one of my brothers is able to shoot deer, and he’s a very good shot too. He was the brother who did 6 years active duty, then 13 years reserve, THEN he did a year in Iraq (long story). What kind of fish do you catch? I have my favorites 😉

Bass and catfish…. I love going out at night and fishing for catfish… a lot of fun.
When we go Florida I like deep sea fishing.
Some friends of mine wanted me to go hunting with him but I just can’t. I have nothing against it I just can’t do it

I’ve eaten catfish but not bass. Perch, bluegill, and whitefish are my favorites. I don’t blame you for not wanting to shoot deer. I couldn’t shoot one either unless I was going to starve.

Yea I’ve taken abuse…fun abuse lol from friends but they get it.
I love whitefish but they don’t live here…

Tull is bliss, and this goes well with the colouring too, thoughtful stuff.
