I have a coloring book of the Celtic Alphabet, where I planned on coloring one a day for A2Z, but instead will color them over the year and then use them in A2Z with whatever my topic will be. This is the first one, “G”, which I chose to go with the song, “Grace” for today. As I watched two movies last night instead of one (a new one, “An Ordinary Man”, an excellent drama starring Ben Kingsley, who just keeps getting better and better; and an old one, “The Wedding Crashers”, with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, which had me laughing at it all over again), I didn’t get my coloring in and the post written, so I had to do it this morning. My apology for the late posting time.
All That You Can’t Leave Behind is the tenth studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, and was released on 30 October 2000.
“Grace” is the last song on the album. There is something so meditative and calming about the song, it is almost a mantra. The gentle pulse of the guitar is like a heartbeat.
Grace
She takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name
Grace
It’s the name for a girl
It’s also a thought that
Changed the world
And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness
In everything
Grace
She’s got the walk
Not on a ramp or on chalk
She’s got the time to talk
She travels outside
Of karma, karma
She travels outside
Of karma
When she goes to work
You can hear her strings
Grace finds beauty
In everything
Grace
She carries a world on her hips
No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips between her fingertips
She carries a pearl
In perfect condition
What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things
Grace finds beauty
In everything
Grace finds goodness in everything
Songwriters: Adam Clayton / Dave Evans / Larry Mullen / Paul Hewson

I like how he uses a small number of simple words and rhymes that go deeper. A minimalist approach that works well.

:) I cry every time I hear that song. Grace is the only thing that can save the world now.

It is a beautiful song. That shows how simple words can be powerful.

It is interesting that I wrote about the three Graces today.

So, to do the illuminations, hopefully you have a dark basement. You’ll need candles. Some soft chanting in the background. Wear scratchy clothes. Tonsure is optional.

<3 I love your advice. No basement. I do meditate as I color, usually to music.

You colour too? My books and pencils are somewhere under a shambolic pile of boxes, paper and moving in stuff. Your post has prompted me to dig them out and rediscover the mindfulness in the process. Thank you x Linda

Another winning song from U2- the ‘comeback album’ from U2 after their worst album Pop. I caught a little of The Wedding Crashers before going to sleep -that is always a movie that makes me laugh. Uncle Ned’s kids.

Yes on Uncle Ned’s kids! lol Did you see Dwight in the opening scene? There was a perfect cast, that worked perfectly together. Bradley Cooper was such a hateworthy prototype! I adored Vince Vaughn in this movie. I think he’s an underrated actor. The guy can do it all!

Every couple years we like to watch The Wedding Crashers and Tropic Thunder back to back- both just fun movies…Yes saw Dwight and agree on the Bradley Cooper character..

You know, it may be mine also, and thanks for the compliment. I’ll be using these letters next year for the A2Z challenge :)
