This Time is the fifth album by American country music artist Dwight Yoakam, released 3/23/93. Three of its tracks barely missed the top spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts, each peaking at No. 2: “Ain’t That Lonely Yet,” “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere,” and “Fast as You,” the latter being his last Top 10 single. “Fast as You,” is one damfine song.  Dwight at his best.

Maybe someday I’ll be strong
Maybe it won’t be long
I’ll be the one who’s tough
You’ll be the one who’s got it rough
It won’t be long and
Maybe I’ll be real strong

Maybe I’ll do things right
Maybe I’ll start tonight
You’ll learn to cry like me
Baby let’s just wait and see
Maybe I’ll start tonight
And do things right

You’ll control me
And oh so boldly
Rule me ’til I’m free
‘Til the pain that shakes me
Finally makes me
Get up off of my knees

Maybe I’ll be as fast as you
Maybe I’ll break hearts too
But I think that you’ll slow down
When your turn to hurt comes around
Maybe I’ll break hearts
And be as fast as you

You’ll control me
Oh so boldly
Rule me ’til I’m free
‘Til the pain that shakes me
Finally makes me
Get up off of my knees

Maybe I’ll be as fast as you
Maybe I’ll break hearts too
But I think that you’ll slow down
When your turn to hurt comes around
Maybe I’ll break hearts and be as fast as you
Maybe I’ll break hearts and be as fast as you
Oh, sucker
Yeah, I’ll be strong, it won’t be long
I’ll be the one who’s tough
You’ll be the one who’s got it rough
You’ll learn to cry like me
Baby let’s just wait and see
Yeah, maybe I’ll be fast as you
Maybe I’ll break hearts too

    I used to love Dwight!
And then I saw him in concert. Oy. Maybe he was a victim of my expectations. I still appreciate these old songs though!
This one is from my country “stage” I’m more into metal now but every time I hear a song from that era, it reminds me of my late teens and early 20s :)

It’s very cool how our musical tastes change over time. After awhile there’s quite a songlist to choose from.

I only like a couple songs on this CD, but the ones I do are really good.

Love this song…We played this in clubs when it first came out…which was unusual for us…we never played anything new.

It’s probably my favorite on this CD. Very cool that you played it. I like the video that goes with it also.

I wasn’t into country at all at the time but when I heard this…we all agreed…yea lets do this one. It has an old feel to it anyway.
