The Life Pursuit is the seventh studio album by Scottish indie pop band Belle & Sebastian. It was released in Europe on February 6, 2006 by Rough Trade Records and in North America on February 7, 2006 by Matador Records.

Pitchfork reviewer, Matt Hogan, says about today’s choice, “Act of the Apostle,” On opener “Act of the Apostle, Part One”, a girl with a seriously ill mother imagines an escape, plays the Cat Stevens hymn “Morning Has Broken”, and contemplates an endless melody before stumbling upon the album’s central question: “What would I do to believe?”

Morning prayers took the girl unawares
She was late for class and she knew it
The broadcaster had a voice that was soothing
She couldn’t tell if it was a man or woman
A patch of sun fell onto her neck
She put her head on her arms on her desk

The lesson today was Acts of Apostles
The crazy hippies, they’re running scared
She shut her eyes and imagined the desert
No cars, no mobiles, just sun and bread
What would she look like standing by the well?
More like a women and less like a girl

Oh, if I could make sense of it all!
I wish that I could sing
I’d stay in a melody
I would float along in my everlasting song
What would I do to believe?

Later on she plays Morning Has Broken
She knows she’s bad
She is slowing everybody down
The choirmaster, usually a bastard, knows her mother’s sick
He’ll be nice to her
She thinks that she shouldn’t be there at all
Her worries make everything else seem trivial

Oh, if I could make sense of it all!
I wish that I could sing
I’d stay in a melody
I would float along in my everlasting song
What would I do to believe?

    1. Thanks Hans, it did take me awhile. I have a book of owls to color and these are so detailed only have done two so far. I have 2 more B&S CDs waiting to hear. I loved that book and the movie. Have you seen, “Julia, Naked” yet? Excellent show that I know you would love. I almost picture you being like the woman’s LTP in the movie.

    1. Thanks Max. I’m listening to them again tonight, another CD. I’m using the gel pens for accents now. I also used it around the owls’ eyes 🙂 Did you have a good Father’s Day?
