Doodads — The Yard — 6/18/19

I took all of these on Monday, 6/17/19 and tried to capture anything in the yard that looked interesting.

Clearance hostas I bought last year.

fish with a ground cover.  have had this for awhile

20190617_123410

peace lily in bloom.  this plant came from my stepdad’s funeral

20190617_123400

climbing rose bush that was here when I moved in.  has the most beautiful pink, fragrant blossoms

20190617_123319

unidentified pretty orange and yellow flower in neighbors yard

20190617_123248

it’s unreal how lush the ginkgo tree is this year.  must be all of the rain

20190617_123001

the two tomato plants i bought from the store.  they are starting to take off.  the plants i started from seed are tiny.  just planted them outside today.

20190617_122948

the lilies keep getting taller but no sign of any buds!   i hope they bloom!  the young primevera peony is to the right of the lilies.  there are geraniums and verbena in front of the lilies but not growing so well right now

20190617_122930

the primevera peony that bloomed for the first time last year.  looks like it will again.  yes, that IS poison ivy in the background.  that sh*t grows everywhere!!!!!!

20190617_122902

the heuchera/coral bells are looking lush this year

20190617_122828

the Japanese iris are in full bloom right now.  so pretty!  these were also here when i moved in

20190617_122818

another shot of the Japanese iris

20190617_123037

the bearded iris are about 3/4 done.  the rain really drenched them and some fell.  apple trees in background

20190617_123049

looky what i’m going to try to grow in a container — rhubarb!  i want strawberry rhubarb pie!  just planted it in this big pot.  some critters, probably rabbits, have been nibbling it.  not anymore!

20190617_123123

another shot of the peace lily.  i need to buy a nice planter for it.

20190617_123231

a full shot of the ginkgo tree.  it’s between 5-6′ tall.  a slow grower, but the branches are filling in pretty nicely.  hideous blackberry bramble in full bloom on the neighbor’s property in the background

20190617_123207

close-up of blossoms in my main peony bed.  the ants are loving the buds

20190617_123156

the main peony bed.  we need more rain and hot weather

look at this lovely St. John’s Wort plant.  it’s huge and grows on its own.  for tea and is also a mood elevator

The ditch out front is growing ferns this year.  There are even frogs in the water.  Both of these things are unusual, as the ditch usually dries up in the summer.

Thanks Jim. It’s a lot of work to keep it up, which I do imperfectly, but it is a labor of love.

I just love seeing all the things you have growing there. So many pretty flowers, and green things! Your area must be great for all this. Here we are semi desert, so to me it’s amazing to see such lush greenery. :)

Only in the late spring and in the summer. The rest of the time it is browns and greys. Glad you like seeing the greenery. Michigan is heaven on earth in the summertime.

I moved out here 8 years ago, after spending most of my life in a busy city. I *love* it here.

Yes and it is a wildflower. First time seeing them bloom there. We’ve gotten so much rain maybe it lets different kinds of flowers bloom.

Good! You’ve got to be feeling a little anxious but a little relieved it won’t bother you after they blast it.

Yep… at least it won’t drop lol… It’s been fine but it’s like a time bomb waiting for it to move about. It’s taken long enough…I feel like I’ll glow with all of the x rays they have taken.
