Lightning Bolt is the tenth studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam, released October 2013.  It’s their most recent studio album, but I have heard word that they have a new one coming out.  Lightning Bolt is an excellent album, so this is just one of many good cuts on it.  I like the maturity of the album.  There’s no cutesy, there’s no pander, just good solid music with the usual consummate bard lyrics.

Neil Young was noted as an influence in “Yellow Moon”.  To me there is a chant-like quality to this song.  It’s one of those songs that can get stuck in your head.

This solemn Jeff Ament and Eddie Vedder penned song almost didn’t make the Lightning Bolt album, but the two Pearl Jam guitarists championed it.

“We ended up moving the key a little bit and that really brought the vocal out more in a really interesting way,” Stone Gossard told Billboard magazine. “But the odd time signature … creates something unique about that song,”

“In terms of a lead,” added Mike McCready, “I feel that that was trying to actually write a beautiful part of a person ascending.”
