Ode to Petunia

ephemeral petunia bloom
alive for just one day
trumpets light into the gloom
to brighten along our ways

food for honey- and bumble-bees
hummingbirds as well
colors bright to pull and please
botany of desire swells

they come as uprights in the ground
or waves upon a vine
petunias sing without a sound
intoxicate like wine

I thank life force in nature for
creating with mystique
flora spawned from heaven’s spoor
to honor such fair beauty, this poem speaks

Fandango’s FOWC is alive and the Word of the Day Challenge is ephemeral.
