I’ve been writing about My Morning Jacket this week and you can learn more about the band and their discography here.  I’m dedicating my Celtic “M” to them today.

Evil Urges is the fifth studio album by My Morning Jacket and was released on June 10, 2008. The album was nominated for the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, ultimately losing to Radiohead’s In Rainbows.

I’ve listened to two other of their albums so far and this one is quite a bit different than the other two. There is a lot more energy coming from the music and they almost seem to be experimenting with different styles.

The song I chose from “Evil Urges” is called, “I’m Amazed.” It was a single from this album.

– [I’m Amazed] that addresses politics is one of the band’s more accessible songs. Frontman Jim James told Rolling Stone magazine: “I’ve gotten tired of normal Rock & Roll sounds. But I like that there’s a song like ‘I’m Amazed’ where anybody who’s seen us live over the years can get into it.”

–This was My Morning Jacket’s biggest hit to date on Billboard’s rock and alternative charts, peaking at #5 on Adult Alternative Songs.
