My choice of tune today is from disc 2 of the Like Omigod! The 80s Pop Culture Box (Totally) which is a seven-disc, 142-track box set of popular music hits of the 1980s, released by Rhino Records in 2002. You can read more about it my first post on it here. “You Dropped a Bomb on Me” is a funkadelic trip down memory lane. The song is so danceable, I get into shape just by listening to it. The video is cool also, with some neat special effects.
The Gap Band was an American R&B and funk band that rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. The band consisted of three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson; and it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers’ hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group shortened its name to The Gap Band in 1973. The band received its first big break by being the back up band for fellow Oklahoman Leon Russell’s Stop All That Jazz album released in 1974. After 43 years together, they retired in 2010.
From wikipedia:
“You Dropped a Bomb on Me” is an electrofunk song performed by The Gap Band, released in 1982 on producer Lonnie Simmons’ label, Total Experience Records. It reached #2 on the Billboard R&B charts, #39 on the dance charts, and #31 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to the single release, the song was featured on the band’s 1982 album Gap Band IV.
A notable feature of the song is its use of a synthesizer to imitate the whistling sound of a bomb being dropped. This is first heard immediately before the first verse, and throughout the song from the fourth chorus onward. The song also features timpani drum rolls.
The song is frequently played at sporting events. For example, it is played at both San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros home games when a player from the home team hits a home run.
You were the girl that changed my world
You were the girl for me
You lit the fuse, I stand accused
You were the first for me
But you turned me out baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
But you turned me on baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
You were my thrills, you were my pills
You dropped a bomb on me
You turn me out, you turn me on
You turned me loose then you turned me wrong
You dropped a bomb on me
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
But you turned me out baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
Just like Adam and Eve
Said you’d set me free
You took me to the sky, I’d never been so high
You were my pills, you were my thrills
You were my hope baby, you were my smoke
You dropped a bomb on me, hey baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
But you turned me out, baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
But you turned me on, baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
You dropped a bomb on me, baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
We were in motion, felt like lotion
You were the girl for me
You were the first explosion turned out to be corrosion
You were the first for me
But you turned me out, baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me (whoa, oh, oh, baby)
You dropped a bomb on me
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
I won’t forget what you done to me, baby (you dropped a bomb on me)
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
You dropped a bomb on me
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
I, I-I, I-I-I won’t forget it
I, I-I, I-I-I won’t forget it
You dropped a bomb on me
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
You dropped a bomb on me
Baby, you dropped a bomb on me
I, I-I, I-I-I won’t forget it
I, I-I, I-I-I won’t forget it
You turned me out, you turned me on
And then you dropped me to the ground
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, you turned me on
And then you dropped me to the ground
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me
You turned me out, then you turned me on (I, I-I)
You dropped a bomb on me (I-I-I won’t forget it)
You turned me out, then you turned me on (I, I-I)
You dropped a bomb on me (I-I-I won’t forget it)
You turned me out, then you turned me on (baby, you dropped a bomb on me, babe)
You dropped a bomb on me (then you turned me on)
You turned me out, then you turned me on (turned me on, babe)
You dropped a bomb on me (then you turned me on, babe)
You turned me out, then you turned me on
You dropped a bomb on me (then you turned me on, babe)
You turned me out, then you turned me on, baby
You dropped a bomb on me

I think you covered this one before because I remember the video but didn’t check your list. Yes, it was big back then.

Didn’t you color that same owl before, as it seems familiar?

No, but I have a book of owls coloring book and all of them look similar. I like this one because it looks like orbs floating in amongst the moonbeams.

Colorful– and a great tune to go along with it. I liked the song so much back in the day I bought the cassette it was on.
