#MM Music Challenge — Climbed a Tower, Lost a Shoe

What’s hard to ignore with the Coconut song is that it’s a round that loops to infinity if one were to have enough time to sing infinitely. It has nonsensical, fantastical lyrics that are more a nursery rhyme than anything. The rhythm is pulsing, some might say hypnotic. Using the above named features of it, I will attempt to write a lyric poem in mimic of it.

Billy climbed a water tank, he climbed on a full moon
His brother Clyde was a brave one and so he climbed it too
They climbed the tank in the moonlight and the sky was purple blue
They climbed the tank in the moonlight and the sky was purple blue
They climbed the tank in the moonlight and the sky was purple blue
They climbed the tank in the moonlight then Billy lost a shoe
Clyde said, “Oh no! Dear brother Billy, you just lost a shoe.”
Clyde said, “Oh no! Dear brother Billy, what you gonna do?”
Clyde said, “Oh no! Dear brother Billy, you just lost a shoe.”
Clyde said, “Oh no! Dear brother Billy, what you gonna do?”
Billy looked at Clyde and said,
Clyde, so right, it is night and I just lost my shoe.” He said,
Clyde, so right, it is night and I just lost my shoe.” He said,
Clyde, so right, it is night and I just lost my shoe.” He said,
Clyde, I’ll go one-shoed or drop the other one too.
Woo-oo-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
Woo-oo-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
Woo-oo-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh

The challenge today is to focus on [Harry Nilsson’s song, “Coconut”] and use it for inspiration in any form of creative expression.

I just checked and the library doesn’t have it, dangit. It reminds me of a couple of Chevy Chase movies, made around that same time.
