#SLS — Crave by Nuno Bettencourt

Jim Adams is the entertaining host of Song Lyric Sunday. Jim says:
This week the Song Lyric Sunday prompt is face related, and I think that there are plenty of options with Chin/Ears/Eyes/Face/Mouth/Nose.

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not. If it does not fit, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

Nuno Bettencourt

This is a new artist and song for me.   I really like what I’m hearing! There is a passion here, both with the singing and the guitar work.  It reminds me of Nirvana.

Nuno Duarte Gil Mendes Bettencourt (born September 20, 1966) is a Portuguese-American guitarist, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He became known as the lead guitarist of the Boston rock band Extreme. He has also recorded a solo album as well as having founded bands including Mourning Widows, Population 1, DramaGods, The Satellite Party (headed by Jane’s Addiction’s then-former frontman and Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell). In 2007 he also reunited with Extreme to record new music and tour.

Per wikipedia:
Schizophonic is the debut solo album from guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, the lead guitarist in the band Extreme. It was released on February 11, 1997. Bettencourt is credited on the cover simply as “Nuno”. Schizophonic is Bettencourt’s first and, so far, only solo effort after the group disbanded.

In face of the then-current musical trends, Bettencourt added an alternative rock edge to his style. Schizophonic’s recording started over a stretch of time during Extreme’s tour for their last studio album, Waiting for the Punchline. Bettencourt wrote most of the songs and played most of the instruments on the album (and all of them on the selected song!) The album cover featured Bettencourt dressed as a woman and with a prominent scar on his forehead.

egothelivingplanet” at Sputnik Music reviewed the album. Part of what he said:
I believe this album provides a rather refreshing transition from hair metal, glam rock, trash and heavy stuff from the late 80’s, to alternative rock from the late 90’s. No wonder Bettencourt took inspiration from grungier sounds and adopted a more aesthetical approach to music, in order to accomplish this transition… [T]his album really sets forth Bettencourt’s musicianship and vision… Of course, regarding the guitar work, nothing less could be expected from a guitarist of Bettencourt’s caliber, but what is really striking is what a talented drummer he is, while also putting out some solid bass lines… Crave is one of the strongest points of the album. After giving it many listens, one will realize that, as I felt it the first time I heard it, it is NOT a Sum 41 cover, but rather a well constructed song that in my opinion shows somehow Pixies inspiration… One can perceive Bettencourt’s will to detach himself from blues-rock guitar riffing and soloing that has taken over mainstream rock music. Elements of funk and jazz can be felt in his work. He has an amazing sense of melody and rhythm, which I believe has allowed him to put out such an interesting album, far from his hair metal days and without entirely adopting alternative rock either.

Got the right house
But the wrong address
I should have my head examined
I finally found the difference between
A kiss and germ warfare
I siphoned gasoline

Your eyes, your ears, your mouth, your nose
Your arms, your legs, your heart, your soul
Touch me, touch me, touch me, touch me
My body craves your touch

A snapshot of you
Tucked in my shoe
So close and yet so far from you
I’m sitting at the back of the bus
I picture you driving
Your rear view mirror eyes

Your eyes, your ears, your mouth, your nose
Your arms, your legs, your heart, your soul
Touch me, touch me, touch me, touch me
My body craves your touch

I crave you

A prisoner
I’m the warden too
Nothin’ worse than self made misery
If Moses truly parted the sea
Then can I quit smoking
My miracles run weak, yes they do

Your eyes, your ears, your mouth, your nose
Your arms, your legs, your heart, your soul
Touch me, touch me, touch me, touch me
My body craves your touch

  1. New to me also Li, but then anything made after the 80s is new to me. This song certainly covers eyes, ears, mouth and nose. This song reminds me of something but I can’t seem to place it.

I enjoyed reading about Nuno. Some good wholesome learning going on. The song is new to me and I loved it. Had more of a 90s feel to me but still distinctly his own style. Great choice.
