kingfishers eat well
as ponds shrink and minnows swarm —
cicada’s sing

duckweed and lotus
leaf blankets bob in the wind —
turtles sun on logs

wrens eat water oats
growing amongst late lilies –
ants climb sturdy stalks

sunset colors leave
moonrise against silhouettes –
river frog kerplops

morning cloudburst leaves
a rainbow over the trees
herons watch quick fish
Frank J. Tassone is today’s host for dVerse. Frank says:
Write a haiku sequence on any theme that you like. Use a minimum of three haiku.
Images:
Belted Kingfisher
Duckweed and water lily leaves
Wren perched on grass
Moonrise against silhouettes
Morning rainbow

So very beautiful! Did you take the photos? I love kingfishers.

You chose the perfect images to complement your haiku, Lisa. I love the way you hint at the heat with the shrinking ponds. The turtles sunning on logs reminded me of the one and only time I visited New York and saw turtles in Central Park.

Thank you very much, Kim. It’s amazing to me that turtles could survive in the middle of NYC!

Oh, sure; make me go back and go back again, trying to pay less attention to the fine (but borrowed) artwork and concentrate on the OUT-FRIGGIN-STANDING (Original) Haiku. Words win, Lisa. You nailed the prompt! Congrats.

There is a complementary symetry between your haiku and the photos that you selected. A supple, deep witness to the natural world around us. Lovely!
