It was so simple to don scrubs, ID, and mask. No one glanced her way on the graveyard shift as she wheeled the newborn pod from the nursery, into the elevator, and abandoned it; then carried her precious cargo out of the hospital’s delivery dock doors.
Baby June, being the child of a one-percenter, meant the kidnapping investigation continued. DCI Mathias and team were called in after six months.
Mathias freeze-framed the surveillance tape and said, “The shoes.”
DS Owen searched databases and interviewed orthopedic specialists until she hit.
Baby June was recovered and the kidnapper was arrested. Case closed.
[100 words]
DCI Mathias and DS Owens are characters in a really good new (to me) show I just started watching on Netflix called “Hinterland.” IMDB describes it as, “A noir crime drama set in Aberystwyth, Wales, where troubled DCI Tom Mathias solves murders while searching for redemption.”

I saw it and it scared the hell out of me as a kid.

I’m still resisting Netflix, but this sounds a good show. Liked the little detail about the one-percenter. It makes all the difference.

It’s not your typical TV show as the two “episodes” have been 90 minutes each. Thank you for your comment, Iain.

I’m glad baby June was rescued. I hope the kidnapper received the help she needed; your story read very much as though she was motivated by a desire for a child rather then anything more sinister.

Great ending to the story. If it hadn’t been for the surveillance tape and DCI Mathias’s sharp eyes.

Neat mystery, neat clue, Lisa! A detective’s sharp eyes are his best tool 🙂
As good as Hinterland is, I can only take it in small doses. The melancholic DCI tends to depress me, poor guy.

I just finished episode 2. Each episode is like a movie at 90 minutes. Pretty in-depth coverage. Yes, he is an all-business glum one. From the clues I’m seeing, it seems his wife has left him and they have twins between them. The location is magnificent landscape but where he lives seems isolated and lonely for him.

Yeah, I definitely got as far as figuring out that he was running away from something haunting, and in that sense, the isolated setting is sort of his melancholic refuge. I like the landscape too, one of the major reasons I keep going back to the series. It speaks volumes on its own.

How often the shoes give it all away. Happy ending for baby Jane and hopefully serious help for the kidnapper.
And I’ll be looking into that show, thanks!

No Bailey went to see it though when it came out…I haven’t seen it…It looks like a demented version of Clue…Is it good?

You have to pay attention and the actors make paying attention easy and fun. Yes very good. Daniel Craig and the actress who played the AI gf of Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049 stole the show, but Chris Evans gave them a run for their money.

I asked Bailey again when I got home and he really liked it….he wants us to see it so it will be soon. He is a huge Ryan Gosling fan and a even larger Blade Runner fan.

Chilling story. There was a child kidnapped like this years ago and she wasn’t discovered until she was in her teens. Her parents must have been in despair all that time.

Yes, it was nerve-wracking for the parents in the story and thankfully their relief was sooner. Thank you for reading.

The 1% always get their way. Another similar series on Netflix is “Broadchurch.” Somewhat on the same topic and geography.

Yes, Danny, they do, until we put our collective feet down. Will keep “Broadchurch” in mind. The town and the terrain near it are so beautiful.

Yep. One of my old CJ professors used to say that every criminal subconsciously leaves clues (at least one) because of conditioning that says they need to pay for their crimes and get caught.

Nice, a soleless kidnapper will always get caught.
I think I am going add Hinterland to my watch list now.
