It was beautiful and sunny outside, belying the day’s ludicrous events. I was thinking about cigarettes for the first time in ten years while shock and denial held hands and started making out. — Day for Night, location 91
Rae, the protagonist in, “Day for Night,” is a former gymnast and former champion surfer who just got voted off of a popular TV reality show. The dream condo that she was buying is a memory and she has downsized into humble digs in Glendale, CA, a neighborhood with plentiful liquor stores and old neighbors with heavy accents.
When Rae encounters a large-headed gray inter-dimensional being trying to beam one of her neighbors up to a spaceship, she thwarts the attempt. So begins the romping adventure that is Day for Night.
The cast of characters are many, from a precocious child scientist, to a cult leader, to a millionaire gambler, to a mysterious physical therapist who is suspected of leading a double life, to a super-buff fitness couple that like to work out hard then roll around together. Oh, and the vampires; mustn’t forget them. And many more!
Stacey does a skilled job of developing each of her characters and how they interact with one another. With her out-there plot she keeps it lighthearted. She is savvy to life in L.A. She makes you feel like you’re riding shotgun with her in her 280Z as she cruises here and there, or walking beside her as you go down to the market to buy a bottle of booze or some cigars. Rae may be down, but she is anything but out.
“Day for Night” is not just a fun frolicking adventure involving inter-dimensional beings and vampires. Interwoven are existential meanderings that are not too heavy yet have substance.
I recommend you check out this book – and know that a sequel is in the works!

I like to read light-hearted books lately, too much heavy in the real world!

Stacey is a talented writer – I can vouch for that.
How about this line from the book –
“He rolled up the window and the car accelerated away at top speed, disappearing down the road in three seconds flat. It was like watching the Millenium Falcon transition into hyper speed”.

Ms. Jade Li, once again, you made my day! What a great way to start the week. Thanks a lot for grabbing the book–I’m so glad you seemed to like it, lol !! I’m also glad you did the review and told me after so I wasn’t sitting around biting my nails.
Book II is indeed at the publishers but has been delayed due to COVID. Fingers crossed first for the world to rebound, then for book II to get out there eventually.
But thanks again to you and to your readers for their encouragement and kind words.
Now I can go into Monday with a smile! 🙂

Stacey is a gifted writer. “I was thinking about cigarettes for the first time in ten years while shock and denial held hands and started making out.” Brilliant description of fear and dread. I hope she sells a million copies.
