Haikai Challenge #170: Christmas Queen

Pileated Woodpeckers – Roadkill Crossing

She of red-
crested head, hungry,
dwarfs her cage
mate with grace.
Queen of woodpeckers visits
this Christmas morning.

Frank J. Tassone is the host of Haikai Challenge. Write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that states, or alludes to, any of the Kigo cited above. Please reference which Kigo/Date to which you write your haikai.

This is for #170, Christmas. It isn’t my photo, but yesterday I saw a pileated woodpecker at the suet cage for the first time. She dwarfed it. First time seeing one up close. What a nice Christmas present from nature.
