Thank you, Vic! It’s a miracle any of it is still alive with this drought.

There is a drought in MI? I knew there was trouble out west…

Not a drought like that but drought enough that the grass was on the verge of dying and the plants would have been dead without water, and the ponds dropping their water levels. Let’s say it’s a drought without being a drought. Now that I said that, it rained last night.

I think the sunflowers do a great job of shading the other plants. The tomato plant shaded by them is doing the best out of all of them. Thank you, dear Kate.

They are blooming here and there in the yard. Thank you. What do you think of that tree? The crew will cut it into burnable sections and chip the smaller limbs and leave them in a pile for me for mulch.

I love the old tree with it’s branches….why are they cutting it? Is it dead?

It grows really fast and it’s starting to scrape bigtime on my skylight. It also shades the fruit trees now. It is a tenacious tree and trimming it won’t hurt it.

No, it gives the house too much shade to take it out. I’d be frying without that tree.

If you click on one of the pics (after the first one) it will open the pic to full size. You haver to manually click right arrow to go through them. I guess it’s more of a manual slideshow. Glad you like the zucchini and pics.

Thanks, K. I just went out in the jungle of the yard on a mission: to cut down the thistle trees. What a menace they are. They grow tall (the tallest I saw was 6 feet,) they have multiple branches (hollow though and easy for the loppers,) and their roots are tenacious. For each one you miss there will be a bunch next year. Oh I forgot to mention every part is covered with big pickers that go through leather gloves at least partway. It’s a sauna and a burning sun. But I got every one Ive noticed while walking around the yard and mowing out back, and even a couple over on the neighbor’s property by the mailbox.

There’s always some invasive plants. I wonder if any plants deter thistles? I know there are plant combinations that help some pest problems.
