there was all kinds of stuff in Canada, when I was a kid for the Montreal Olympics (’76 I guess it was). The one thing I did get and think I might still have was some of the coins they put out – there were special Olympic designs on some, and I seem to recall quarters released with various sports that happen in the Olympics on the front.

Very neat, Dave. I remember the world used to watch the Olympics religiously when there were only 3 channels that were free. Now that we have hundreds of channels and pay money, the audience for them seems to have moved on to a great extent.

Cool site Lisa…I remember watching them for the first time in 1976 when I was 9

Yes, especially since Irene is personally connected to each of those pieces. Cool that you remember when you watched your first Olympics 🙂

For some reason Lisa… Marc Spitz keeps coming up in my mind but he won those medals in 72 and earlier…maybe they were interviewing him or something in 76 because that is when I found out about him…

It could be they were visiting winners from the previous Olympics?

That was probably it. I also remember that gymnast that won everything.

Nadia Comaneci…I had to look her up…yes.
The other one I remember from the 80s is Mary Lou Retton.

Ah yes! I couldn’t remember her name. Was Katerina Witt in this batch also? I remember tiny Mary Lou 🙂

Mary Lou was cute as a button… you looked so tiny you could put her in your pocket.
Witt I think was with Mary Lou in 84.
