Doodads yard in July flora and fauna

These have all been taken within the last week or so.  The lilies are flourishing!  The butterfly weed is on the wane now but a few days ago, these lovely orange butterflies were swarming it.  I’ve also had the hummingbird moth here on a regular basis but it goes for the zinnias more than anything.  I saw the monarch caterpillar last week while mowing out back.

The rest of the photos were taken yesterday (you see I got backlogged with my pics!)

Thanks, Max. I wonder if the sustained heat wave made the lilies bloom so well?

I thought the heat would kill Jen’s tomatoes but they flourished.

those white lilies are awesome. We used to always have a row of the orange tiger lilies at the house where I grew up as a kid. Had some nice photos of them but I always wanted some of the white ones with almost gold speckles in them.
Nice to have those Monarch butterflies around . definitely not as many around as there were when I was a kid.

So beautiful. What is it about flowers that make us stare and smile? The colors, tickling some primordial pleasure center? These are all in your garden?! Wow. I LOVE star gazers, too. Probably a cliche, bu they smell SO good…….!

So happy to make you happy with the flowers. Yes, I think the heat has something to do with it. Michael Pollan calls our attraction, “the botany of desire” check out the title by him and read the blurb. Yes the fragrance carries a long way with these beauties :)

I just realized something. That other conversation about what women do to themselves and I brought up Tama Janowitz and A Certain Age. That was the wrong book! A Certain Age was good, very funny, but the book I MEANT to say was Peyton Amberg. That’s about a woman who rides on her looks until it’s well past time for her to be taking that ride anymore.
I know we all have long lists and little time to actually get to all these books, but just in case you DID remember one day…. yeah. Peyton Amberg. Sorry for the confusion! :)

Thank you, Vic. It’s more of a nature preserve than anything. Most of what grows here seeds and grows itself. I just avoid it when I’m mowing, and many areas aren’t mowed.
