Six-year-old Princess Mina had little interest in the outside world. Her nose was stuck in books much of the time. Indifferent to pretty dresses and tea parties, Queen Gigi was getting worried.
Christmas Eve’s family gathering reconvened in the drawing room after dinner. Uncle Alfie stood near the fireplace and did his annual recitation. This year it was an anonymous poem from the Troy Sentinel, about a jolly man in red who delivers gifts through the air with a team of reindeer. Little Mina’s eyes lit up. Clapping her hands, she announced, “I want a flying sleigh and reindeer!”

How sad that Mina is captivated by a fairy tale. I hope she never ascends the throne

Maybe giving back to the poor is what captivates her? Time will tell. If so, I hope she does!

And now, thanks to Uncle, we know what she wants.

I am sad for Father Christmas, delivering modern electrical Christmas gifts can not be the same as filling stockings with nuts and fruit.

You know, Michael, I do also. At some point Santa will be but an emoji and a memory.

I like the way you set the scene with Princess Mina drifting around with her nose in a book all the time.

That was beautiful beyond words beautiful! I’m not particularly fond of the that funny fat man in the red suit, nor the greed that he’s come to represent in modern society.

Thank you, Bear! I understand about the fat white man in the suit that watches you and rewards you if you’re obedient. I like what I think Mina has in mind, which is being a mini Robin Hood 🙂

What a lovely story, Lisa. And in the end Mama can be happy that Mina is just a normal child. Who wouldn’t want a sleigh with flying reindeers?
