Silver-for-Gold helped me with my dating profile as all of my pictures were of Herbert and I. They edited him out. The metaphor hurt.
I got a “wink” from Haruki, who listed his hobbies as reading and writing. We became correspondents over the next year. Post-pandemic, I was on a plane headed to Tokyo.
Uber took me to Haruki’s address. The storefront looked like a portal. In the display was a hardbound copy of my book, opened to a favorite passage. To the right, a novel bearing his name! Looking up, I saw the smiling face of my new co-pilot.

If one can’t write about one’s dreams in fiction, what’s the use of it? This story is a dream involving author Haruki Murakami. Murakami just released a new book of short stories, First Person Singular, which I haven’t read yet but want to. Murakami often writes surrealistic plots with alternate perceptions/realities/dimensions.
