Mother’s birthday gift,
a planted sapling you,
the front yard ash, grew
old with me. A weathered,
tuckered man, limbs drooping,
I was laid to rest
beside you under
your open arms.
Now we share rolling
seasons in silent comfort,
as fond companions do.
Sarah is today’s host for dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. Today’s word is “ash” and I like the word so much I wrote two poems. This is the 2nd poem.
I could see how that would be a fine way to go

Oh, this is lovely. The link between human and tree is so warmly drawn.

I love the sentiments in your poem. It would be lovely if our final resting place could be in such a serene environment beneath a magnificent tree. The tree is incredible. It makes the one in my garden look like a baby. Thanks for linking. It was a pleasure to visit this post.

So glad you enjoyed the poem, and this is my dream exit. You are very welcome. I love sharing about trees with others who love them.

Ah, very happy to hear it. I sent it a long time ago, probably mid-November.

Our post is really delayed. Parcels are even worse. Everyone bought some much online stuff during all our lockdowns this year that the delivery people can’t keep up. I’ve been waiting for a new bed to arrive for a month now!

Ah, so that’s why. Hoping you have a comfy place to sleep until the new bed arrives.

Beautiful. I have a birthday tree too, in my parents’ garden. Father planted a fir tree when I was born, his first child. Somehow I doubt that I’d be buried under it though. They say it’s getting too tall and weak and the danger is it will fall on the house. It will have to go before me.
