#FF — What’s Left

PHOTO PROMPT © LIsa Fox

There it sat, unused, isolated; the manifestation of the best efforts of across-the-aisle compromise in both houses. Governor Wilmer had sighed as she scribbled her signature on the bill, a subtle acknowledgment of her complicity, an impotent figurehead of the shambles of a once actualized ideal: representative government.

She left her capitol office that winter afternoon and crunched along the poorly shoveled sidewalk in her Manolos, avoiding snowdrifts and cracks in the concrete.

Big Sal yelled, “Hey Gov!” as her silhouette graced the entryway of the tavern, then reached for the Stoli, her usual.

Wind howled through the shitless crapper.

Excellent writing, Jade. I particularly liked, ‘Governor Wilmer had sighed as she scribbled her signature on the bill, a subtle acknowledgment of her complicity, an impotent figurehead’. And it’s a great take of the prompt.

Wow. Back with a bang, aren’t you, Lisa?! Sharply relevant to current times when compromise means everyone wins but the taxpayers.

Compromise is normal and necessary in democracies. Maybe that politician and her colleagues should remember what that word means. Good stuff, Lisa.

Gah, never have I seen branches of government so polarized from each other. Nero fiddled while Rome burned comes to mind… Thank you very much for reading and your comment.

Our state is in the process of more equitable redistricting, which may end the deadlock between the legislative and executive branches, so yes, hope does :)

Thank you, Laurie. The paradox is that most people have no interest in being politicians but are quick to say what a terrible job the ones who do are doing.
