Ghost flowers (tanka)

white lotus at nightBlue Moon Lotus,” by Kate Hungerford

Ghost flowers twinkle
in my silvered wake; luna’s
reign gleams soft yet bright;
almost home, I pause and raise
a jug, toasting her tethered stars.

I learned today that some white water lilies bloom at night and are called ghost flowers.

    How did I miss this? It’s lovely, Lisa. We used to grow moonflowers which did the same, and oh, the scent! Heavenly.

      Dora, thank you. My ex planted a crop of datura here a few years back which are also “ghost flowers.” It makes the night not so fearsome…

    I love the idea of ghost flowers. It’s so poetic. Love it almost as much as I love the description “a murder of crows”. Who thought of that?! I wish I could come up with just ONE great sentence/idea/thought like that in my life.
    However, as for right now, with a toast to “tethered stars”…I think you beat me there Li. Beautiful.

    Awwww, thanks so much for asking!! No !! Last I heard, next spring/summer. It almost seems like when I asked for a new cover, they started avoiding me, lol !! We’ll see. I think it’s nice of them not to kick me out. I mean, it made SOME money, but obviously I can’t retire from my full-time job just yet, lol………….

    You are so sweet. I know you’re being really supportive and positive, but I could always just send you the PDF that I have sitting in my folder right now, lol. You could have first read. “Oh crap,” thought Lisa, “Nuts! Why did I ask???!!” šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚
