Doodads — Nature Walk on Christmas Eve

DOODADS BANNER

The Land Conservancy of West MI is having a Bow Walk Challenge, where you walk certain trails that have bows placed in them.  The challenge is to find the bow, take a selfie with it, submit it, which enters your name into a contest for prizes.  I decided to check out a new trail today, the Anderson Woods Nature Preserve.    From my AllTrails.com review:

Take the left trail to start the loop (clockwise.) I of course went the other way and at one point followed an arrow that took me to the “upper loop.” Without this gps tracking I would have been lost. That said, there are helpful blue dots on the trees that confirm you are on a path. It is all flat and there was no wind today. You can hear cars on the road near part of the trail, which reassured me I wasnt going in too deep. There is a gun club nearby so I heard guns being fired. I have never seen so many wintergreen bushes full of berries before. I saw no signs and heard no sounds of wildlife except for a few random clouds of gnats, which seems so strange to see now. This is a nice easy trail to walk.

What the following route map doesn’t show is that only the part where there are double lines was on the “lower loop” of the trail.  The rest is what I am calling the “upper loop.”

There are a lot of big oak trees in this preserve. Nice to see them, but all of that lichen growing on so many of them has me a little worried.

What an interesting walk. So different from the nature reserve near where I live though like you I am never beyond the sound of cars. Luckily I don’t have a gun club nearby. Thanks for linking to my blog. Have a good Christmas break.

Well it is the middle of the winter (of no snow) so most of the green is gone (except for the lichen, which seems to be going wild!) There are multiple gun clubs around the area. My pleasure on linking up. Hope you are enjoying your holidays also, Suzanne

How strange to have so many gun clubs around. We have a different attitude to guns here in Australia but I understand it’s a contentious issue in America. The holidays are ok – very busy here on the coast in the summer.

Wow, your photos were like a kick in the head. We’ve been meaning and meaning to take a walk, take a walk, take a walk, and instead of talking about it, there you were. I’m gonna lambast hubby about this RIGHT NOW after I get off here. I love it. Was it cold out there?

Ouch! I hope you do get out there. It’s been surprisingly “warm” for the end of December, in the low 40’s. That said, today was the coldest day yet.
