City of Nome to Pay $750K + Apologize for Failure to Investigate Sexual Assault against Native Woman — Turtle Talk

Remember the case about all of the people being sexually assaulted in Nome, Alaska and the police weren’t doing anything about it in a great number of cases?  Well, there has been some movement in the case.  Major movement.  One case got settled.  I cannot help but wonder, since our country is based on case law, if this is the first in a domino for Nome?

Here is the settlement agreement in Hardy v. City of Nome: settlement-agreement-signedDownload Here is an opinion piece by the plaintiff, “I fought for justice for 5 years after I was sexually assaulted. The work isn’t finished.“

  1. Have you been watching the hearings of K.B.Jackson? Stories like this should put those men to shame who are questioning her and her intentions.

No I haven’t. Is she the nominee for US Supreme Court? Why doesn’t it surprise me they want to keep light out of the cesspool?

Not a small victory; as you said, hopefully it was heard of long enough before the settlement, to encourage other victims to seek justice.

Max, I think there are many who came forward but the cops did nothing. I hope each one gets a settlement like this. It sends a message. A big message to those municipalities that think they don’t have to protect all of the citizens in their community. I think because Nome is in such a secluded place that they thought they could do — or not do — as they pleased.
